#1 Welcome back!

Your inspiration taps hidden reserves of promise that sustain people through times that induce despair. You enable people to envision a future that sustains the best from their past while also holding out new possibilities.”

― Ronald Heifetz, The Practice of Adaptive Leadership: Tools and Tactics for Changing Your Organization and the World

Dear Region 1 Leaders,

Andrea and I are going to work together to create a single blog for all schools in Region 1 (list below). Right now, I'm trying to get information out; just know it is our intent to send a singular message.

It was great seeing almost all of you at August Leadership Institute last week. The stories of Dr. Cassellius, John King, and Jaime Casap could be the children who currently attend our schools. They each defied the odds and became teachers and leaders because of teachers, because of school. How do we inspire our staff to believe every student belongs? It is our job to create a culture where adults are inspired to create a space where students feel they belong and can be their best - perhaps unimagined - selves.

We are excited about a new school year and working with each of you to bring our schools to the next level.

Congratulations!

The three School on the Move Finalists have been announced: Bradley, Harvard-Kent, and Kenny. I look forward to the School o the Move Prize Ceremony on October 31, 2019. Congratulations, also, to all the qualifying schools - keep trying!

This Blog

Grace/Andrea will use this format to communicate and will email the link to you each time a post is published. You (and members of your leadership team) are welcome to enter your email at the bottom of this page to follow the blog. Those who sign up should receive an automated email notification when a new post is published.

<<To Do>>

***Please share your PD/Meeting (ILT/CPT) Calendars with your supervisor. A Google Calendar would be most convenient!

Grace plans to stop by during your before school PD or your first day(s) with staff. She also plans to stop by during the first week of school.

Visit Calendar

There is a tab at the top of this page that is Grace's school visit calendar.  Use this calendar for important testing dates, school committee/district calendar/community items as well. To keep it simple, it does not include everything, just school visits. At first, it will be a draft for your review. Grace is behind on its creation at the moment!

Data

First, a shout out to ODA for the quick turnaround between data arriving and creating usable files for your ODA folder. If you have a moment, please send emails of kudos to Monica Hogan and Mary Dillman.

Embargoed MCAS Data

Aggregate scaled scores only gives you a small picture of whether or not your school met targets.

THIS Friday, August 23Full preliminary student-level MCAS results in DropBox

LAST Friday, August 16 Full official ACCESS results in Edwin Analytics

Actual Student Writing with rubric scores are available in Pearson.

All of this information, when finalized, will be housed in Data Warehouse. Staff will be able to view their own students based on how they are set up in Aspen. Write datawarehouse@ to obtain schoolwide permission for your support staff and/or teacher leaders. This will take the weight off of you to print/download everything.

School ODA Folder

If you haven't found it already: You have several types of files in your school's ODA folder with file title <SchoolName School 4-digit # ODA Data>. Then look for the file <Preliminary 2019 MCAS (EMBARGOED)> where there are several Excel files that work best if downloaded into Excel rather than viewing in Google Sheets:

  • Most recent aggregate scaled scores for All Students, by Race, EL, SWD, Economically Disadvantaged
  • Preliminary results by standard and domain in ELA, Math, Science (look for version 2 or V2 in the filename)
  • Everyone has access to released questions in Pearson or DESE website.
